Visiting Sponsored Research Coordinator

Background and Responsibilities:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Illinois seeks to fill a full-time Visiting Sponsored Research Coordinator (“Coordinator”) position. The primary function of this position is to coordinate Sponsored Research proposals, assist in coordination of accounting program, coordinate gift program and general administrative activities. Visiting position may become regular at a future date.

The ECE Department has approximately 100 faculty, all of whom may use the ECE Business Office for sponsored research administrative support; while approximately 30% do at this time. The Coordinator’s primary function is to coordinate and manage ECE’s Sponsored Research Proposal activity totaling approximately $157 million and 130+ proposals annually in addition to coordinating with other units on ECE Faculty sponsored research not processed through the ECE Business Office. The Coordinator is a key liaison for ECE to the Office of Sponsored Program and Research Administration (OSPRA) and is responsible to ensure accurate and timely submittals and maintain the proposal records for the Department.

Other duties of the Coordinator include review of subcontract payment history, GCO invoicing, anticipation account status, faculty unrestricted gift accounts, processing gifts received in the Department or via wire transfers, liaison to the UI Foundation for establishing new accounts, records and processes Invention Disclosures, and generates ad hoc reports for the Department Administration, including access to confidential records.

Qualifications:

This position requires a current affiliation with the University of Illinois and a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or a related subject area.  Other degrees will be acceptable with University Business Office experience. Familiarity with University Policies and Procedures related to Sponsored Research Administration is required.  Familiarity with FASTLANE, grants.gov, Proposal Central, and NSPIRES is desired. The successful candidate will also possess excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication skills, proven organizational skills, the ability to interact with a broad array of internal and external constituents, the ability to concurrently manage multiple complex tasks, and an aptitude for learning new skills, tools, and processes.

Appointment Information:

This is a 12-month, non-tenured visiting academic professional appointment with applicable University benefits. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, minimum annual salary is $40,000.
