Charles S.T. Liang

Charles S.T. Liang

(BSEE '62, PhD '69)

A research engineer senior principal of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Fort Worth, TX, Liang was honored for his contributions to the development of the technology of low observables applied to the tactical aircraft designed and produced at Lockheed Martin.

For the past 33 years, Liang has worked on radar-related projects at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company (formerly known as General Dynamics/Fort Worth division). He led the original design of the reduced signature F-16 multirole fighter that has had continuous production of close to 3,000 units in 20 years with minimal cost and maintenance impact.

He was responsible for the integration of many low observable concepts into a unique aircraft configuration that resulted in the A-12 naval medium attack design. In the mid-1970s, he was the resident manager for the successful installation, test, and support of four AN/FPS-110 Aircraft Control and Warning radars in Taiwan, the Republic of China. Presently, he supports the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program and other advanced aircraft projects on vehicle signature design and development.
