Harold Korb (PhD ’71) was recognized for outstanding contributions to the research and production of high-quality silicon wafers for the microelectronics industry. As director of crystal technology at MEMC Electronic Materials (1991-96), Korb led a 50-person R&D department that developed new silicon crystal growth technology and transferred it to manufacturing. In 1996, Korb led the development of a new "Magic Denuded Zone" silicon wafer product at MEMC. In 1998, he retired from MEMC as a senior scientist.
Recognized as one of the world’s leading experts on silicon defects and their effects in integrated circuits (ICs), Korb now works as an independent consultant to the IC industry.
