ViaSat became the first satellite ISP offering high-speed residential broadband over most of the US through our Exede™ brand, along with providing mobile broadband to the American Red Cross for disaster relief and in-flight broadband on JetBlue and United Airways. We collect hundreds of terabytes of network performance and usage data from our subscribers that are used to help us improve our products and services. Our “Big Data” platform is built using open source software running in the Amazon cloud and has migrated from batch processing to interactive querying and now to real-time processing. We will cover the technologies used and the challenges encountered and provide some interesting insights.
