Abstract:
Employers want to hire talented college students who can demonstrate the skills, talents and strengths that are necessary in the work place. Do you have those skills? Will you be ready to transition from student to professional?

Convince employers that you are ready for the workplace through your resume, elevator pitch and interviewing skills. The Directors of Career Services and of Study Abroad will explain how your experiences and activities outside of the classroom, such as study abroad, are critical to helping you master the skills employers are seeking. And, we’ll teach you how to showcase them in a way that help you get the job or internship you want.

Bios:
Amy Fruehling is the Director for Engineering Career Services at the University of Illinois where she leads a team of three career advisors, three employer engagement experts, a receptionist and a terrific team of student workers. Together the ECS office provides innovative career services to approximately 10,000 engineering BS, MS and PhD students and over 750 employers with the goal of empowering students to launch successful careers. Through partnerships with employers, alumni, faculty, staff and student groups, Amy assists the advising team to provide career advising and development events, presentations in classes and to student organizations on a variety of career topics. She works with the employer engagement team to grow connections with companies, facilitate career fairs and develop relationships with corporate partners who support the career services office an all of its activities. Amy has worked in the Career Services profession for 15 years. Prior to joining the University of Illinois, Amy worked in the marketing industry for companies that included the Leo Burnett advertising agency (McDonald’s account), Supervalu/JM Jones (County Market/IGA stores) and for BankIllinois (now Busey Bank). She holds a BS in Business from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the Kelldstat Graduate School of Business (DePaul) in Chicago.

Meredith Blumthal is the Director for International Programs in Engineering at the University of Illinois where she leads a team of 3 study abroad advisors, a receptionist and a team of student workers. Together the IPENG office provides study abroad advising, expertise, international exchanges, and cultural experiences in over 60 programs throughout 20 countries, with the goal of providing transformative learning experiences that empower students to develop global competency skills. Through partnerships with partner universities abroad, alumni, faculty, staff and student groups, Meredith assists the IPENG team to provide study abroad advising and development events, presentations in classes and to student organizations on study abroad. She works with overseas partners to grow connections with universities, and facilitates the study abroad fair. Meredith has worked in the Study Abroad profession for 10 years. Prior to joining the College of Engineering, Meredith worked in the College of ACES, and has led more than 150 students abroad to six different countries. She holds a BS in Horticulture, and an MS in Natural Resources & Environmental Sciences and a MS in Agricultural Economics, all from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
