Course Prerequisites Credit or concurrent registration in ECE 329
Course Directors Patricia M Franke
Description Solution of selected electromagnetics problems at the ECE 329 level using personal computers.
Credit 1 hour
Goals To provide experience with solution of electromagnetics problems by using personal computers.
Topics
  • Vectors and fields
  • EM fields and materials
  • Maxwell's equations in integral form
  • Maxwell's equations in differential form
  • Static and quasistatic fields
  • Time-domain transmission line analysis
Computer Usage

Consists of PC-assisted instruction, involving user interactive software developed specifically for this course and dealing with topics distributed throughout the course:

Conversion of Vector from Cartesian to spherical coordinates Polarization of sinusoidally time-varying fields Direction lines of electric field due to point charges Motion of electrons in crossed electric and magnetic fields Plotting of equipotential lines due to point charges Solution of Laplace's equation and plotting of equipotentials Charge distribution and capacitance by method of moments Illustration of traveling-wave concept Time-domain analysis for a transmission-line system.
