Description This is a first course in digital communications. It concerns the reliable communication of a bit of information over three channels: additive Gaussian noise channel, wireline channel and the wireless channel. Emphasis is on the impact of bandwidth and power (the two key resources available to the communication engineer) on the rate and reliability of digital communication. Technological examples will be used as case studies to get a feel for the broader context in which the reliable communiation techniques developed in the course are used.
