Official Description Solution of selected electromagnetics problems at the ECE 450 level using personal computers. Course Information: Credit is not given toward graduate degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Prerequisite: ECE 328; credit or concurrent registration in ECE 450.

Detailed Description and Outline

To provide experience in the use of computers for solving electromagnetic problems at the level taught in ECE 450. Another goal is to enhance the student's knowledge of electromagnetics at this level.

Topics:

  • Uniform plane waves
  • Transmission lines (time-domain, sinusoidal, steady state, Smith chart)
  • Waveguides (including dielectric slab guide)
  • Antennas and antenna arrays

Credit is not given toward graduate degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Computer Usage
The course is based entirely on the use of computers to solve electromagnetic problems. An existing software package such as Mathematica™, or similar alternative, is used.
