At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign - Established 1983

He was faculty advisor to both Eta Kappa Nu and the student branch of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. He worked closely with the students in supervising the Electrical Show, the success of which ultimately resulted in the development of the Engineering Open House as a collegewide activity.
He retired in 1956, but continued to serve the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering by developing a supervision and training procedure for guiding the new teaching assistants. He visited their classes and then counseled with them on how to improve their techniques.
Professor Reid died December 15, 1965.
In 1983 Mrs. Nell W. Reid established the Ernest A. Reid Fellowship Award in Honor of her husband who taught in our department from 1917 to 1956. The fund was set up to encourage graduate students pursuing the Ph.D. to consider an academic career. It is the donor's desire that "deserving...students interested in pursuing a course of study resulting in teaching of electrical engineering" be given preference.
