Biography

Kiruba Haran is a Professor and the Grainger Endowed Director's Chair in Electric Machinery and Electromechanics in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Haran moved to Illinois after spending 13 years at GE Research in Niskayuna, NY. At GE, he developed electrical machines for applications ranging from power generation to aviation and defense. At Illinois, his work has focused on high specific power machines for electrified transportation and renewable energy. Dr. Haran also serves as the Director of the NSF funded POETS Engineering Research Center. He is an IEEE Fellow and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
