Discrete Components

These are usually pretty easy even if you have traces running to the leads on the top layer. Usually the leads are easily accessible on the top layer for soldering.

  1. Insert the component leads into the holes. If possible, bend the leads a little on the bottom side to hold it in place.

  2. Solder the leads on the bottom side.

  3. Trim the leads on the bottom side.

  4. Turn the board over and solder the leads on the top side. You definitely need to solder the ones connected to traces. It might be a good idea to solder the others, too, just for structural support.

  5. The installed component should look something like this.
