Specific areas of interest include

  • Coding Theory and Applications
  • Communication Networks
  • Information Theory
  • Optical Communications
  • Random Processes
  • Signal Detection and Estimation
  • VLSI in Communications
  • Wireless Communication Systems

Communications research is advancing the frontiers of communications systems and networks (with particular attention to wireless), modulation and error-control coding, and information theory. Major projects include an integrated exploration of wireless communication that will enable the exploitation of new frequency bands as well as more efficient use of current bands, basic evaluation and design techniques for high-speed networks, interference suppression and modulation schemes for CDMA and other systems, design and analysis of fault-tolerant systems, and, in collaboration with colleagues in VLSI circuits and microelectronics, efforts at matching storage and transmission schemes to the physical layer.
