ECE Senior Design (ECE 445)
ECE 445: Senior Design gives electrical engineering students experience solving novel real-world problems from formulation to demonstration of a solution.
A recent student summed up his Senior Design experience this way: “I felt that the class was a type of final exam for my education. It proves that I can do engineering. It’s a hands-on test to see what you’ve learned here.”
Industry participation in and support of the class is welcome and can come in a number of forms.
Present a Problem
Interesting problems play a crucial role in educating world-class engineers. The course director vets proposed problems and student groups choose their own projects. If your problem is selected, you may remain involved as a mentor at any level of time commitment you choose. If your problem is selected, you are encouraged to also become a Supporter or Sponsor.
Be a Supporter
Amazing projects are made possible by the generosity of our supporters. Companies providing in-kind or monetary support up to $7,499 in a given academic year will be recognized as having done so during class, on the department and class websites, and in the department’s magazine for that year.
Be a Sponsor
External financial support allows us to pursue world-class projects. Companies providing a minimum gift of $7,500 in monetary support in a given academic year or $15,000 over the course of three years will be recognized as a Sponsor prominently in the Senior Design Lab, during class, on the department and class websites, and in the department’s magazine. Sponsors are invited to attend the Senior Design Celebration event at the end of each semester.
Be the Awards Presenter
A number of awards are given at the end of each semester to recognize outstanding student projects. There is an opportunity for one company to present these awards each year at a cost of $10,000. The award will incorporate the company’s name and the Awards Presenter will be recognized during class, on the department and class websites, and in the department’s magazine for that year. The Awards Presenter is invited to be part of the awards presentation during the Senior Design Celebration event.
If your company is interested in supporting the ECE Senior Design program, please contact Professor P. Scott Carney at email@example.com or Brad Petersen, ECE associate director of external relations, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
